CATWALK MODELLING IS CHILD’S PLAY!
The community and residents of the area, who for many years have not had any proper recreational facilities on their estate where toddlers and young children can play safely, are raising money for a ‘State of the Art’ play area and park costing £95,000. It is a colossal sum for committed fund raisers let alone a small group in a valley town like Pontardawe.
Luckily the residents under fundraising stalwarts, Marion Comaskey (Chairperson of the local residents association ) and Allyson Cashmore (Secretary ) have kick started the project and managed to procure a £15,000 Environmental Fund Grant and a further £6,000 from Neath & Port Talbot CBC. Marion, Allyson and the residents still had a large mountain to climb to raise the remaining amount of money but through fundraising events they remain focussed on this challenge.
Crown Models UK www.crownmodelsuk.com a newly launched model agency based in the Swansea area learnt of this worthwhile charity project. They decided to lend their services and expertise to try and boost the funds by organising a Children’s Fashion Show at the Local Community Centre. The object was for the children to be the stars of the show, with selected models from the agency including Jade, Ffion, Jordann, make-up artist Jo Jones and their fashion photographer on hand to give the children a crash course on the catwalk.
Finally the big moment arrived – the residents, friends and family packed the community centre. The children duly performed and where magnificent, with spot-on catwalk precision, poses and fierce looks!
Thomas, 6yrs old and the only male model in the show, suitably impressed in a miniature Spiderman costume and in another with pint-sized ‘James Bond’ outfit.
The Alltacham children buoyed by their catwalk success are now eager to participate in a bigger charity fashion show event being planned for later in the year. Could it be a case of London, Paris, New York and Pontardawe fashion week in a year or so? Who knows? We’ll have to wait and see!
