TheBAY Photographic Competition 2011 Results

Last year we challenged you to take a photograph entitled The Bay for our competition to win a year’s subscription to the magazine Outdoor Photography plus your image on a canvas courtesy of Gavin Wright of Jessops in Belle Vue Way, Swansea.

We had hoped that the title would inspire some of you to think a little laterally rather than literally but most entries were indeed of Swansea Bay.

After much deliberation we finally came to our decision on the winner and runner up, but we also selected those that we felt deserved a mention.

The winning image, which the judges were unanimous in selecting, is entitled “The view from Rattigan, Kintail, Scotland by Kim Collis. We were all agreed that the subject matter and the technical ability were of a very high standard. The colour of the mountains and the reflections on the water are so typical of the Scottish Highlands which Kim has managed to capture perfectly. Rattigan is on Loch Duich which is a sea loch and therefore the title bay is correct.

The runner up is Colin Davies with his image entitled Rhossili Bay. The judges loved the silhouettes of the fishermen and the light on the sea. The colour and tonal value of this image along with its composition made it stand out.

We all felt that the four other images shown here deserved to be mentioned as they too were of a high standard.

Congratulations to our winners.

Many thanks to all of you who sent in an entry or in some cases several entries. We’ll be running another competition later in the year so do enter again.
