Badger's Album Choice - Will Young - Echoes
It’s been 10 years since Will a slightly cocky and yet slightly humble drama student walked out onto the stage for a brand new talent show called Pop Idol. Since then he’s scored an endless stack of hits, has attracted millions of fans and now finds himself with a new album, a movie and television career and has maintained a very private personal life.
Will’s new album is called Echoes and has been produced by Richard X who has had numerous hits with Kylie Minogue and Liberty X plus many other acts.
‘Richard is a fantastic producer, I told him what I wanted from the album, the influences were all there and I wanted the influences to shine through rather than the tracks to sound like cover versions or sound-a-likes and he’s managed it perfectly. The influences of Bronski Beat to The Wild Beasts are all there’ said Will when we caught up with him recently.
Stand-out numbers include that Bronski Beat-reminiscent track ‘Losing Myself’ the haunting ballad ‘Silent Valentine’ and ‘Come On’, which could easily have been plonked quite nicely on a Take That album.
Of the ballads my fav is the beautiful ‘Lie Next To Me’ which is guaranteed to make Will’s fans hearts melt.
The first single is a pop/dance-edged number ‘Jealousy’ which was co-written with Kish Mauve who’s had hits with Kylie’s ‘All the lovers’.
Will has a theatre tour in October and November and will be at St David’s Hall in Cardiff on November 26th.
Will’s single Jealousy is out August 21st and the album Echoes is on August 22nd.
