Badger's Album Choice - Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto

Weird title eh? Well we looked and there's lots of different translations, Wiki throws up 'dis-ambiguous insects' so we had to find out from Chris Martin himself.

There’s a lot at stake with the new Coldplay album. Not so much for the band but the record company. It's a sad affair but the fact remains that show business includes the word business and the release of this album above all, coincides with the sale of its record company which lost a fortune on Robbie Williams’s last project. They need to be seen at the #1 position in the charts right now as it will have a direct affect on the share price. So don’t expect this to break any new barriers, it's designed to be the album to be put alongside the kit kats at Tesco.

The songs which stand out are of course the singles, Paradise, Every teardrop is a Waterfall and what looks set to be the new one Princess of China (featuring Rihanna).

Saying you love the new Coldplay album is a bit like saying you love Aston Martin cars or Ralph Lauren clothes, of course we do, they are the highest of the high, the best of the best and so they should be for the sake of their record company (EMI).

Don't get me wrong there's no single track that will make you hit the track advance button and I've loved listening to this album (almost as much as the Beyonce album).
Other not so instant songs like Us Against the World, A Hopeful Transmission and Don't Let It Break Your Heart won't make your nose bleed but they will make you smile.

Get it, plonk it on your I pod and love it. The highlight for me has been listening to track 14 Up with the Birds while up for a morning run this week along the Swansea seafront, thoroughly uplifting (and exhausting). Oh and we asked Chris where the title came from “it's a nonsense word, like Google was 15 yrs ago”. - Oh right

Verdict 8/10
