Guts Goes on a Road Trip
Winter has been a long hard slog for Swansea's surfers this year. The weather patterns that gave us all that freezing ice and snow were also responsible for keeping the ocean devoid of any surf for what seemed like months on end. What is usually the prime season for big consistent surf seems to have come and gone with not so much as a whimper. And on the odd day there has been a wave to ride, the air temperature has been so low (a balmy -10 one morning) as to question the sanity of stripping off at the beach and struggling into a damp wetsuit.
But with all that said and done, I think it's safe to say that the worst is over and we are nearing spring with every passing week, the weather has been positively tropical of late and even the waves have been making a comeback.
Yes, my fellow surfers - things are looking up!
So, with this in mind, myself and a couple of friends did our first little road trip of the year to a fickle little secret spot where we hoped to score some classic Welsh winter perfection- and boy did we get lucky!!
Gower legend suffers horrific surfing injury
Gower’s most famous surfing son Peter Jones (PJ) suffered a serious head injury whilst surfing at Blue Pool on Wednesday 9th February. In a freak accident, the ex European champion was struck on the head by a fellow surfers board and sustained a severely fractured skull . He was airlifted off the beach and taken to Morriston hospital before being transferred to Cardiff for neurosurgery. At the time of going to press Pete is making a good recovery and all being well we should see him back in the line-up by early summer.
Get well soon Jonesey - we're missing you already!!!
