ON THE ROAD AGAIN….
LAST MONTH THE ATLANTIC FAILED TO DELIVER THE WAVES THAT CHRIS WAS LOOKING FOR – BUT THE NORTH SEA CAME GOOD
All good things must come to an end, and so it is with the great run of surf that has lasted for the last couple of months here on Gower.
For the last few weeks, the Atlantic Ocean has been doing a fine impression of a lake – not a ripple in sight!!
So with the memories of week after week of pumping swells fading quickly into distant memories, a surf fix was needed – and quickly!!
After scouring the weather maps, I decided a road trip up to the North Sea offered the best opportunity of snagging some cheeky little waves without blowing a major hole in my finances.
So with my son Connor in tow we packed our gear and headed outta tow, heading North full of hope and expectation.
Nothing, where waves are concerned is guaranteed. It’s always an educated guess when predicting swell. The weathermen get their predictions wrong all the time and they have million dollar computers to work with so we have our work cut out even more so!
With even the most careful planning, you can still get it totally wrong and find there is nothing but crushing disappointment to reward you for all your efforts.
But sometimes, just sometimes, you get a lot better than you expect too, and this trip happened to be one of those times. The swell was a little larger than we anticipated, the wind was light and perfectly offshore and even the sun came out to play and we scored a day of surfing that will live long in the memory banks!!
