The Gower Show 2015

Celebrating Rural Life

JUNE2015GowerShowpic

The Gower Show is a traditional one-day agricultural show and this year will be on Sunday 2nd August 2015

The Show is held in the stunning grounds of Penrice Castle Park near Oxwich Bay, and this must be one of the finest locations for such an event in the country!

If you enjoy the countryside, or are looking for a different fun filled family day out, you will enjoy The Gower Show – it is a day not to be missed.

A full programme of displays and events will take place throughout the day. One of the highlights for this year is the return of “Jive Pony” with dancing horses and an amazing equestrian stunt team.

Little Nipper’s Terrier Racing will be making their first visit to Gower with terrier and lurcher racing showing off their fast paced high action antics. You may also have a chance to get involved in the racing fun with your own dog!

If that sounds just too energetic there is always the novelty dog show – with classes open to all breeds, whatever shape and size!

Falconer Ben Long will fly his beautiful birds high in the sky; a special licence has been applied for so that he can send them up even higher to show off their skills. In contrast, there will be Polly’s Parrots Road Show believed to be the only mobile parrot show in the UK, a chance to learn more about these lovely colourful birds.

For the past few years, we have been lucky to have had a display of Shire horses at Gower Show, and in 2015 there will be, not only Shires, but other breeds of magnificent Heavy Horses pulling drays.  Sadly this is a rare sight these days, and this display is sure to be a spectacular event.

However, most importantly, and as expected in a traditional agriculture event, it is a chance to see that farming is still so very important to Gower.

We are delighted that for 2015 cattle will be back in the livestock section. The sheep entries are increasing year on year and there will be plenty of pigs and piglets! Of course, fine examples of horses, of all breeds, large and small will be showing in the main ring. The competition rings will be full all day, with competitors hoping, that this year, they will win the ultimate title in their section of “Gower Show Supreme Champion 2015”.

Other displays and exhibits will be housed in white marquees dotted around the castle field. There will be the dramatic, artistic flower arranging in the horticulture marquee, and a chance to compare cooking skills in the cook-ery tent. In the honey tent you can even get dressed up and go in and have a look at a working bee hive! If shop-ping takes your fancy, there are plenty of local arts and crafts available to pur-chase from a carefully selected range of trade stands, with unique products, not seen on the high street. Growing in popularity is the fine selection of local food that is available to taste and buy.

Come along, join in, and celebrate the countryside at Penrice Castle Park on Gower Show Day.
