Charles Fencott of 57 BARBERS in Vivian Road, Sketty knows a thing or two about male grooming. Why not pop in to see him and experience a traditional cut-throat close shave?
Top 10 in the UK
AS PROMISED, THIS MONTH’S INSIGHT IS FROM THE OTHER END OF THE BARBERING SPECTRUM, THE STUFF OTHER THAN HAIRCUTS THAT MAKES US TICK
June is one of the busiest and most exciting months in the barbering calendar. Firstly because summer is here so the haircuts get shorter, tighter, more refined as we lose the winter length and with all that vitamin d from the glorious sunshine your hair grows faster, so we see you more often… “kerching”! Secondly for us in the trade its competition time, which starts in a display of the UK and worlds best barbering, held at the UK’s only barbering exhibition Barber Connect.
For any barber worth their salt, this is the event of the year. It is held in the Celtic Manor Newport and attracts over 3000 barbers from the UK and Europe. This is the place where we come together to catch up on the latest trends and fashions, see new product launches, and attend seminars with industry leaders and peers to hone and refine our craft.
The other side to the event is the awards and competitions. You have the barber of the year, barbershop of the year, product of the year to name but a few.The one I had my eye on this year was the British Master Barber in the UK barber battle competition run by the British Master Barbers Alliance. This competition ends with the top 3 barbers in the UK battling it out live on stage (cutting hair not fighting) for the title. Unfortunately this year I did not make the live battle, so will only be cheering from the side lines. However I did make the penultimate cut so I have ranked top 10 in the UK. Next year I’ll take it, though!
What I am looking to get out of this year’s event, apart from all the amazing free stuff, is the knowledge to improve my skills, and an insight into the emerging trends and styles for the next year.
I will let you know next month what you can expect to see walking out of 57 Barbers as the rest of the year unfolds.
