ASHLEY IS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO SPEND TIME EACH YEAR ON THE MEDITERRANEAN ISLAND OF MALTA WHERE BRITISH CLASSIC VEHICLES ALSO ENJOY THE DRY WARM CLIMATE
The glorious winter weather in Malta means classic vehicles owners can get out and about in their vehicles and enjoy some nice road runs and static events.
Over the last month I have been lucky enough to enjoy visiting a Mini Show, a Ford show, and to see some other classics and to chat with their owners over a coffee.
I also had a run around the island as a passenger in two show trucks – an American Peterbilt and an ex UK truck which is a tribute to Lady Diana. Most of the old vehicles in Malta originally came from Britain and the kind weather has given them an extended life.
Some vehicles came from the army when the British left the island many years ago. Some vehicles that still exist here, such as Minis, Hillmans and Triumphs came to Malta in kit form and were built by the shipyard workers when ship repairing and building was slack.
The Maltese are very proud of their classic vehicles and really enjoy showing all the records they have kept while restoring their vehicles.
