Talking Business – 25th Anniversary for Newton Garage

A quarter-century of serving local customers: Rob Mills of NEWTON GARAGE in Newton Road is justly proud as he celebrates his twenty fifth anniversary this month. Bay Template

Rob and his business partner Stuart Smith took over Newton Garage in February 1991, on the retirement of the previous owner. Rob had already been an apprentice at the garage and both were young enough to flex their entrepreneurial muscles —- with the very evident success they have today.

Newton Garage occupies one corner of the crossroads, across the way from the two local pub landmarks, Newton Inn and the Rock and Fountain, a handy location for customers. Residents of the SA3 postcode Mumbles / West Cross / Newton / Caswell / Bishopston / Murton / Pennard area wouldn’t dream of going anywhere but our local garage for MOTs, service, general auto care and of course for petrol. Newton Garage customers are completely spoilt by the attendant service that makes a pleasure out of a chore, for while your car is being fuelled, you can catch up on the latest local news with other customers and with Rob and his crew.

I never tire of extolling the virtues of shopping locally, making it a point to favour traders in my neighbourhood as often as possible. And when they provide as efficient and friendly a service as Rob and Stuart do, you simply can’t do better. We all congratulate the lads and wish them very good fortune for the next twenty five years.

EDITOR’S NOTE

Last year, while driving over to see Sarla Langdon, I noticed that my oil light was flashing as I braked. Now I am not in the least bit mechanically minded – but I know that warning lights are there for a reason – so I pulled into the Newton Garage. A mechanic quickly diagnosed the problem – my car was not low on oil, but pretty much dry. A couple of litres of engine oil later and my warning light was off and I was on my way again. The charge was just for the oil and more to the point, I was not made to feel like an idiot. Courtesy costs nothing and that is exactly what I was charged. Congratulations Rob and team – there’s a good reason that your business is celebrating such a milestone.
