In February this year their wedding took place at The King Arthur Hotel, Gower. It was a grey and wet day but they didn’t let that dampen their spirits and were willing to brave the weather to get some stunning photos on the surrounding moors.
Owain is a keen skier so the wedding had a bit of a ski theme with the tables named after ski slopes and the cake topper penguins, sporting skis and bobble hats. To make the day even more special their stunning Hungarian Vizsla Koa made a guest appearance at the wedding too. She was very well behaved throughout the ceremony and looked the part in the photos as her collar was made of Harris Tweed to match her dad’s bow tie.
TheBAY’s fashion guru Chantele Cross-Jones – wife of photographer Jon owner of Cross-Jones Photography – caught up with Emma to find out how the day had gone and how much organisation was needed to make the day go according to plan.
How long did it take to plan the wedding? Did you have any idea of theme when you started planning? Which bits did you enjoy the most?
We were engaged for two years and had a leisurely and enjoyable planning process. We always knew we wanted something relaxed and that reflected our personalities. We got engaged while on a skiing holiday, we enjoy skiing together so it was certainly going to have a role to play without it being a ‘theme’ as such. With help from our venue decorators Enchanted Decor we soon decided on a winter woodland style for our wedding. Everything then fell into place.
Was there a reason you chose your venue? Was there something you were drawn to, something you loved about the place?
We loved everything! The King Arthur not only had the easy/relaxed atmosphere that we were looking for, but the venue itself was just gorgeous. Wooden beams, twinkly lights and to top it all they are award winning. Just perfect.
Tell us about the dress – Where did you get it? Did you try on many? Is there a story behind it?
Oh the dress… I had gone dress shopping with my mum and mother-in-law (to be) just a month after we got engaged. I had read and been advised to try on a variety of styles. The winner must have been about the fourth dress I tried on, but it stood out immediately. It was sparkly and big. Two things I hadn’t necessary planned on having but felt so right when wearing it. I had a measurement fitting about a year after we bought it and then the next time was to make sure it fitted like a glove. Being 5ft 3 meant I was always going to need to have the dress shortened but that was it really. I brought it home the Friday before the wedding on the Saturday to make sure Owain didn’t see it before the big day….
Did you have a something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?
Not as such… my necklace and earrings were aquamarine which is my birth-stone, but Owain also surprised me with a wedding day gift from Tiffany which I guess is technically something new and blue.
If you could give some advice to couples planning their wedding, what would it be?
Just enjoy the whole process – the day is over with in a flash but the buildup and memories you create along the way will stay with you forever!
And it’s always worth entering competitions as you never know that you might win! We could NOT have been luckier to win the Cross-Jones Photography competition. We will be forever grateful for meeting Jon and Chantele.
