Editor’s Choice – Environ Original

Bay TemplateI WASN’T LOOKING FORWARD TO MY MEETING WITH JODIE GROVE OF THE GROVE SKIN CLINIC IN GOWERTON – NOT BECAUSE I DIDN’T WANT TO SEE JODIE – SHE’S A LOVELY LADY – BUT BECAUSE TALKING TO A SKIN EXPERT MAKES ME REALISE THAT I DON’T HAVE A FLAWLESS COMPLEXION AND THAT MY LAUGHTER LINES JUST AREN’T FUNNY.

Jodie is an advanced clinical nurse prescriber and because of her medical background, she tackles the problems that most of us face as we age, in an informed way. Her skin consultations take in to account any medical problems that you might have, and she recommends Environ products, a prescription skin care range developed by a consultant plastic surgeon.

“What is your skin care routine” Jodie asked. “Oh heck” I thought. I confess that my morning and nightly routines tend to involve whatever products have been on special offer in the chemist or supermarket. But I proudly told her that I exfoliated twice a week – this was absolutely true. I rigorously scrubbed my skin with an abrasive cleanser on a Wednesday and Saturday, in the vain hope that it would get rid of the old dead skin cells leaving me with a dewy, fresh, youthful glow. It never did, but I lived in hope.

Jodie’s face said it all.

“We need to exfoliate naturally she said and there are products that encourage this. Thereare hundreds of harsh exfoliators on the market, but by excessively scrubbing we expose the new, fresh skin cells too soon. This increases dryness, redness and inflammation”.

Right, so I needed to ditch the scrubs and start on a gentle regime. First of all I had my face photographed with a state-of-the-art imaging camera that showed up all the problem areas on my skin. Sun damage, brown pigmentation, wrinkles; I have to admit it wasn’t the best photograph of me I’d seen. The plan was for me to have another photograph taken in a few months to see if the Environ products were having any effect.

I went home armed with my bag of goodies; cleanser, toner, moisturiser and a special around the eye cream – and definitely no exfoliator.

The products were all very lovely – they had no particular smell and weren’t greasy or heavy. It was surprising how little of each I had to use each time. I had always considered my skin to be quite dry, so had been pretty heavy handed with the moisturiser applying a generous layer to my face at night. With the Environ moisturiser, a pea sized drop proved the perfect amount to gently moisturise while not leaving my face feeling dry.

But the proof of the pudding as they say is in the eating, and it was with my usual cynical hat on that I returned to the clinic for another photograph. All the photos are taken from exactly the same angle each time, so that any changes can be easily seen. Well I have to report that there was an improve-ment in the wrinkles around my eyes and the brightness of my skin. Ok it was only a slight improvement but this was after just six weeks – they recommend the time between the photos to be 3 months. So as far as I’m concerned the experiment has been a success. I will continue with this regime and report back in another few months. I’m not expecting to look 10 years younger, but if the improvement to the texture and tone of my skin continues I will be very happy.
