If you enjoy the countryside, or are looking for a different fun filled family day out, you will enjoy The Gower Show – it is a day not to be missed.
A full programme of displays and events will take place throughout the day. Visiting The Gower Show for the first time, and one of the highlights for this year, is a chance to see spectacular stunts and amazing tricks performed by the 3SIXTY Bicycle Stunt Team.
Little Nipper’s Terrier Racing will be making a welcome return visit with terrier racing showing off their fast paced, hilarious, high action antics. You can also have a go at the racing fun with your own dog! If that sounds just too energetic there is always the novelty dog show – with classes open to all breeds, whatever shape and size!
Falconer Ben Long will fly his beautiful falcons and will show off their agility and hunting skills. A special licence has been applied for so he can send them up high into the sky to show off their skills. There is also a chance to meet Ben and have a really close look at these stunning birds.
For the past few years, we have been lucky to have had a display of Shire horses at The Gower Show, and in 2016 there will be, not only Shires, but other breeds of Heavy Horses to be shown in hand. This gives a fantastic chance to have a close look at these gentle giants.
New for this year is an exhibition of traditional country crafts and skills, and the opportunity to talk to the people who keep these old traditional skills alive. These are just some of the events planned; there is a lot more happening on the showground throughout the day.
The Gower Show is very much a traditional agriculture event; it is a chance to see that farming is still so very important to our area. There is a fantastic livestock section with many different breeds of cattle, sheep and pigs all competing in their different classes, and it is a chance to get a really close look at some of the finest examples of livestock. Of course horses, of all breeds, large and small will be showing in the main horse ring too. The competition rings will be full all day, with competitors hoping, that this year, they will win the ultimate title in their section of “Gower Show Supreme Champion 2016”.
Other displays and exhibits will be housed in white marquees dotted around the castle field. There will be the dramatic, artistic flower arranging in the Horticulture marquee, and a chance to compare cooking skills in the Cookery tent. In the Honey tent you can even get dressed up and go in and have a look at a working bee hive! If shopping takes your fancy, there are plenty of local arts and crafts available to purchase from a carefully selected range of trade stands, with unique products, not seen in the high street. Growing in popularity is the fine selection of local food that is available to taste and buy.
Come along, join in, and celebrate the countryside at Penrice Castle Park on Gower Show Day.
