SEW SWEET WILLIAM PROJECT

MAKE A MEMORY BOX THIS SUMMER

SARAH DAVIES OF SEW SWEET WILLIAM IN KILLAY HAS A LOVELY PROJECT TO DO WITH THE CHILDREN THIS SUMMER – SIMPLY COLLECT YOUR HOLIDAY MEMENTOS AND FRAME THEM AS A KEEPSAKE.

YOU NEED:

your favourite holiday photos

photo fabric and printer

old holiday clothes or scraps of fabric

buttons and/or scrabble letters

luggage label

things you’ve collected on holiday e.g., tickets, shells, pebbles etc.

a box frame

sewing machine with a hopping (darning) foot

fabric glue

bondaweb

METHOD:

Print your photos onto the photo fabric using a computer printer. (Follow the instructions given with the photofabric).

Iron bondaweb onto the wrong side of the photos and onto the wrong sides of your fabric scraps. Trim the photos and cut the fabric scraps to your own design,

e.g. hearts, flowers etc.

Cut a piece of backing fabric about half an inch bigger than the back of your frame, arrange your fabric scraps and photos onto your backing fabric and iron in place.

Using a hopping foot machine stitch around the fabric photos and the other fabric shapes.

Hand sew any buttons or trims you have chosen.

Use pva glue to attach the scrabble letters to the luggage tag and glue in place.

Use pva glue to attach the collage to the frame back and trim the excess backing fabric. Place any other mementos inside the box frame and secure the back of the frame in place.

A lovely way to create something unique to remember your holiday! All materials are available at Sew Sweet William for you to create your own photo fabric collage at home or why not come along to a workshop for step by step help.
