Black Cats

Swansea Cats Protection

cats-pic-1This year 27th October is National Black Cat Day, our annual celebration of black and black-and-white cats. Around half of the cats in our care across the UK are black or black and white. While we’re not sure why monochrome moggies can take longer to be adopted than cats of other colours, we know they can be just as loving, if not more so than the more colourful coated cats.

Last year’s National Black Cat Day reached thousands of people on social media, and we think that this year’s event will be even more popular.

If you are thinking of adopting a cat, why not consider a black or black-and-white one?

In October we will be posting photos of our local, lovely black and black & white cats on our Swansea and District branch facebook page and inviting people to post photos of their black or black & white cats.

For a black, adult cat in rescue, the outlook is bleak…..could you look beyond the coat colour?

Look beyond the coat, and black cats have all the charm, and charisma of their more colourful cousins. Their sleek glossy coats complement their bright shining eyes. They are stunning, regal looking animals – each one an individual. Black cats are just as wonderful as any other, with all the same needs – love and care, in a home of their own. If you enjoy the company of cats whatever their colour, please consider adopting a black cat.

If you like black cats, you share some very famous company:

Fred Astaire • Winston Churchill • Calvin Coolidge • Ernest Hemingway • Brian Eno • Frank Zappa • Ian Anderson • John Lennon & Yoko Ono • Queen Victoria • Charles I • Tom Cox • John Travolta • Edgar Allan Poe …and many more we are sure!

Our next Homing Day at Kenwood Cattery, Llanmorlais will be on SUNDAY 9th OCTOBER between 10 and 4.

Black and white cats in our care at the moment:

Bay TemplateCandy and Floss

Candy and Floss are pretty sisters they have never been apart and do everything together, they are 5 months old and were originally quite shy, but because of the time and patience of their fosterer are now affectionate, loving cats. They are to be homed together.

Bagheera is a 2 year old male. He is a lively, playful, friendly cat but is not good around young children.

Tilly came into our care when heavily pregnant. She had 5 kit-tens who have now been homed so Tilly is hoping a good home will come along for her soon. She is approximately 2 years old. She is a bit of a diva and has an indepen-dent streak. She needs an owner who likes a bit of a character cat!

Kitty is a pretty older female cat of around 12 yrs old. She is very sweet natured. She came into our care as a result of her elderly owner’s death.

Max is a handsome black cat of 2 to 3 years old. He has been a stray for over a year but he didn’t get on with the resident cat of the person who was feeding him. However he may well get on with a different cat as he was invading the existing cat’s territory. He is friendly and affectionate.
