UPDATE on Wildflower/Wellbeing Garden

Singleton Park, Swansea

Friends of the City of Swansea Botanical Gardens are now underway with the extension to the Botanical Gardens in Singleton Park. The area will be a more natural, a more informal garden. The fencing has been completed and the construction of the footpaths should be started in October (weather permitting). Ample seating will be provided for visitors to rest and enjoy the views over the wider park. We have reached our target of raising £90,000 for Phase 1 of the project.

We have joined the Wales Online Funding Development Programme “Localgiving”. We are hoping to reach people who feel affection and pride in our parks and want to contribute to their development.

Singleton Park and the Botanical Gardens hold a very special place in our hearts at TheBAY. I spent much of my childhood playing in the park with friends, and my mother would take a daily walk in the Botanical Gardens. She loved to see the gardens change with the seasons, often taking shelter in the glasshouses in bad weather. When she died in 2011, we installed a memorial bench for her in the garden. I’m sure there must be many of you who have similar memories, and would love to support the Friends in their aim to complete this project.

We get told so often by readers just how much they enjoy receiving TheBAY each month, and that they are amazed that it is FREE. If everyone who gets the magazine delivered donated just £1 we could get them over their target very quickly. So if you want to show your appreciation for the magazine, please make a donation – however small to this great cause.swansea-botanical-ad
