TheBAY IS DELIGHTED TO WELCOME BARBER CHARLES FENCOTT BACK AGAIN. CHARLES HAS HAD A VERY BUSY YEAR AND LOOKS SET TO CONTINUE THE TREND IN 2017
Wow, it has certainly been a while since my last article. So much has happened so I will try and recap very quickly. Firstly I changed employment and went to experience life at Sleep When You’re Dead barbers and bar, yes BAR in the big smoke of Swansea city centre. For the last six months I have worked with some of the most interesting and brilliant people, if you get a chance definitely go down even if it’s just for a drink at their cellar bar and barber shop. In this time I have managed to make it to finalist of the UK barber battle for a second year in a row. I have become brand ambassador for RVCA clothing, so will have some very interesting events with them, and the biggest event of all – my wife and I celebrated the birth of our second daughter – so all in all I’ve been kept busy!
So that was what has happened, now onto what is to come. Winter is here and styles are changing; the guys unlike me, who can still grow hair on their heads, are now growing the length out a bit to keep their ears a little warmer. You will notice styles starting to change from the sleek and swept to more heavily textured and tousled. I will be demonstrating how to create these styles, when I take to the main stage at the Gentleman’s Grooming Show in Tobacco Dock, London on 3rd of December. There will be a live stream available on Facebook, or tickets are on sale should you want to attend.
Which now leads onto my news: in November I left the city centre barber shop to finally take the leap and open my own, Salty Beards Barber Co. in Killay. I have joined forces with my good friend John Williams of Onboard Killay to open the UK’s first barbers, surf shop and coffee house. We have combined our three big passions and hopefully in turn created the ultimate ‘hang out’, where anyone can come in and feel totally welcome to sit down, get a coffee and a doughnut from the Gower Doughnut Co, a hand crafted surfboard or a perfectly tailored haircut. We have three distinct cultures already mixing, from the surfing community, the coffee house connoisseurs, and the gents of the barber shop. Of course it is not exclusive to those guys, we welcome all through our doors and hope to expand and embrace as many of Swansea’s sub cultures as we can into one big surf stoked perfectly groomed, coffee fuelled community.
You can also book a haircut online through the Salty Beards facebook page or by using this link saltybeards.resurva.com/book
We look forward to seeing you!
