Gower Festival 2017

Saturday 1st July to Saturday 15th july 2017

We have some wonderful concerts arranged for the 2017 Festival. We have invited several artists who have delighted us in previous years: the Wihan Quartet (string quartet), Pavel Kolesnikov (piano), John Anderson (oboe), the Carducci Quartet (string quartet) and Alexandra Dariescu (piano). These are internationally established musicians coming to play for us in our lovely Gower churches.

From the wealth of younger talent, we have selected Emma Halnan (flute), Jamal Aliyev (cello) and the Haru String Trio. They all have exceptional skills and we are lucky to hear them early in their careers. In 2014 a number of amazing young musicians from the Yehudi Menuhin School gave a concert. This year, we have the whole orchestra and it will be impressive. The Wales International Academy of Voice trains singers to the highest of standards. They will be performing a concert based on Italian arias. Many of you will know Wyn Davies, born in Gowerton and now Director of Music to New Zealand Opera who will be giving us a hilarious cabaret evening with a musical flavour!

In 2016, we held a Cymanfa Ganu/Songs of Praise in Capel y Crwys at Three Crosses to celebrate our 40th Anniversary. This was so enjoyed by all who took part that we have decided to hold another. The service is non-denominational and we invite all choirs on Gower and beyond, as well as people who enjoy singing to come and make a joyful sound.

In keeping with our objective of supporting young musicians, we again have a concert devoted to outstanding players from the Abertawe Festival for Young Musicians, and at our three Masterclasses, visiting musicians will meet with local young players to guide and inspire them.

The special nature of the Gower Festival is to have amazing music in the superb acoustic of ancient Gower churches. We seek to provide an experience to remember and offer a series of concerts which I am sure you will find attractive and most enjoyable.
