Ok, so I’m seven weeks into my six month membership – just once a week for 20 minutes, and I’m happy to report that changes are taking place. I am now happy to reveal my upper arms – something I’ve not been keen to do for almost a decade. They now have just a glimmer of definition and are definitely less flabby, and you can see my biceps.
The beauty of it is that, you spend a short amount of time in an intense training session where the muscles are stimulated not only by you tensing them, but with the addition on an electrical impulse going through them at the same time. This means that your muscles work much harder than in normal exercise but without putting pressure on your joints.
I’ve never been a gym bunny – I just don’t have the patience to spend hours on a treadmill or lifting weights – so this regime suits me to a tee.
I’ve also noticed an increase in my energy levels – after a day sitting at my desk, I’m ready to go for a walk in the evening rather than flopping in front of the telly. Another benefit is that my joints are definitely less stiff and my previous knee pain has all but disappeared.
Does it hurt? No – you feel a tingling sensation to start and as the impulse level increases the feeling gets stronger – but as your personal trainer is always right next to you, they keep the level to within your comfort zone.
There’s no weight limit – and they do a complete body analysis before you start which includes taking your medical history and blood pressure to ensure that you’re fit enough. Age is no barrier either.
I’ll keep you posted as to how I get on in the next few months.
