Christmas shopping made easy

with Lesley Williams

Christmas shopping needn’t be a chore if you can combine it with an afternoon out, and maybe a spot of lunch. My destination this year will be Ystradgynlais, where there are some great places to buy unique gifts for all your friends and family. The Riverside Gallery, owned by David and Helen Pickering of Classy Curtains fame showcases some of the many talented artists from the area. I am particularly taken with the work of

Jane Davies of Metier Mosaics, who uses bits of broken china and recycled ceramics to create beautiful and unique designs.

Who could resist a hand-made teddy bear? The work of W Smith, these bears will become heir-looms in years to come.

The Gwili Pottery has been producing brightly coloured ceramics for many years and some of the newest designs are very striking – coffee mugs are always a welcome gift.

The gallery has the work of many local artists, with styles to suit every taste from local scenes by Colin Chinnock to the bright, nature inspired florals of Amanda Dagg.

The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday 10.00 to 17.00 and Saturday 10.00 to 15.30
