Reflexology is a complementary therapy which is based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower leg, hands, face or ears correspond with different areas of the body. Applying pressure or massaging these different points can encourage healing and a feeling of wellbeing.
Philippa suggested I pop in for session of facial reflexology using the Bergman Zone Method – this appealed to me as I have very ticklish feet.
Philippa explained that facial reflexology works in the same way as foot reflexology. It is a non-invasive, holistic treatment that focuses on reflexes/pressure points on the face. She started by cleans-ing my face with a Neal’s Yard Remedies cleanser followed by the award-winning Zone Face Lift elixir, developed by Ziggie Bergman that hydrates and tightens the skin. The gentle pressure and massage were incredibly relaxing – I’m not sure that I didn’t nod off at one point. Lying on the therapy couch listening to a soundtrack of music and birdsong I completely forgot about my copy deadlines and other stresses of daily life. I don’t often take time-out of my schedule for myself, so this was a very special treat.
In the pre-treatment consultation, I had told Philippa that I had an old knee injury – that is that the injury was old but actually so are my knees. I have a problem in not being able to kneel and sit back on my heels. She carried out a little VRT (Vertical Reflex
Therapy) on the tops of my feet in the area that relates to the knee, and also highlighted the points on my hands where I could apply pressure to alleviate the pain. I will do this twice a day and see if my knees improve.
After my treatment I felt relaxed and yet invigorated – ready to take on my next challenge. My skin felt soft and I definitely had a healthy glow in my cheeks. The following day, after following my usual cleansing/moisturising routine, I didn’t feel the need to wear any foundation as my skin felt smoother and less blotchy.
I felt very at ease in Philippa’s company. I will admit that I’m not really a massage person, I don’t actually like the physical contact of strangers, but on this occasion, I was very relaxed and enjoyed the experience.
