Easter Cheer

Wine recommendations with Antoinette Milne - Wine for Life Learning

We’re celebrating Easter and the glory of spring this month! It’s finally here and with it, the wonderment of the season. We’re kicking off with bubbly Laurent Perrier Brut Champagne (and the beautiful glass gift set) before moving on to the refreshing, grown-up Vinho Verde, then to the aptly named orange wine, Solara, and finishing with a beautifully balanced Blaufrankisch. All are simply perfectly paired with a super, sunny, spring day. Happy Easter. Pasg Hapus.

Laurent Perrier “La Cuvee” Brut (Gift set with glasses) £43.99 BUT £39.59 Mix 12 (Champagne, France)

Laurent Perrier leads the way with this beautifully poised Champagne. It is delicate and expressive with refreshing flavours of citrus, green apple and white flowers.

Persistent bubbles rise up to form a lively mousse. This is the signature “house style” and it is meant to offer freshness, lightness and elegance for you to admire and enjoy. The gift set is tremendous value (what better way to drink Champagne?).

Quinta da Lixa Vinho Verde 2019 £10.25 (Vinho Verde, Portugal)

A seriously delicious Vinho Verde with flavours of fresh green apples, tangerine, grapefruit and peach along with the hallmark touch of spritz. It is family made from classic grape varieties grown in the Vinho Verde region. A perfect spring and summer wine on its own and/or with grilled shellfish and light, delicate dishes of any kind!

Solara Orange 2019 Cramele Recas (Viile Timisului, Romania) £9.95 Vegetarian, Vegan

Orange wine is becoming increasingly popular as many look to explore different and unusual styles. It is made by allowing the skins of white grapes to stay in contact (macerate) during white wine-making (as is normally done with red winemaking) and typically results in an orange coloured wine with extra flavours, complexity and tannins. This example is made from the indigenous Romanian white grape, Feteasca

Alba together with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. It has fresh, pure flavours of pear and stone fruits with a rich texture. Time to try an Orange wine?

Blaufrankisch 2018, Weingut Judith Beck £16.49 (Burgenland, Austria) Natural, Organic, Vegan

Blaufrankisch is an important central European red grape variety. The soils in the vineyards (for these grapes at Judith Beck) are alive and healthy and grasses are encouraged to grow between the rows of vines (which can help manage soil fertility and quality and encourage biodiversity). Biodynamic principles are adhered to and there is minimal intervention in the winery. Judith Beck crafts a wine that has lively, peppery and juicy cherry and blackberry fruit flavours. Delicate and delicious, if you haven’t tried a Blaufrankisch before, now is your chance!
