Claire-Julia Hill was born in France and is a 23-year old graduate from the Cambridge University School of Architecture and Art History. She’s a local landscape artist and produces paintings from a little converted studio-shed in her garden.
Throughout school, Claire was a permanent resident in the art studios, and would never miss a moment to be painting. Claire says “I always knew I want-ed to pursue a career in the art industry and sought a degree at Cambridge that would combine both my love of art and academia. Post-graduating, I was lucky to be able to travel and find an internship with an Icelandic Contemporary Arts Museum in Reykjavik. There I learnt a lot about the European and Scandinavian art industry, and it solidified my decision to return to the UK to pursue my own career as a professional artist.
“During the pandemic, I set up my own website and was fortunate to have lots of interest and commissions flooding in. I have been painting and selling works ever since and have been lucky to have my pieces display-ed and sold by Cottey Florist in Killay, with more summer commissions on their way for their walls.
“This autumn, I am due to start a postgraduate in Fine Art with the Chelsea College of Art and Design. My goal is to work as a professional artist and help to promote, strengthen and enrich people’s relationship with art. At the moment, I am combining my painting with my job in the RNLI as a beach lifeguard on Gower, which has served as wonder-ful inspiration for rich and varied landscape paintings.
“I have recently invested in a brand-new camera and I plan to take lots of action shots across Gower as I am posted to different beaches this summer. I sell my original oil paintings of Gower as well as take on private and commercial painting commissions”
