Celebrate August

Wine recommendations with Antoinette Milne - Wine for Life Learning

August is upon us and so is the sun (hopefully) along with a Bank Holiday! Why not try a romantically named Prosecco for those long summer evenings? Or ONNA, an unusual white wine made from the native Catalan Xarel-lo grape variety. An exciting organic rose from the south of France adds to the pink energy. And for the red wine this month, why not try an exciting old vines Garnacha from the southeast corner of Spain! Truly an August worth celebrating!

ROMEO & JULIET PROSECCO DOC BRUT £8.99 Mix Six (or £11.99 a bottle)

Pasqua (Treviso, Italy)

A romantic Prosecco for those long summer evenings! It’s light and refreshing. Aromas and flavours of cool citrus, apple and pear whirl around and are lifted by the soft, persistent bubbles. Splendid to sip on its own and a happy compatible companion to any light, savoury nibbly bits and light dishes.

“ONNA” XAREL-LO 2019 £12.59 Mix 12

Ramon Canals (Penedes, Spain)

*Organic + *Vegan

A beautifully refreshing white wine made from the native grape variety, Xarel-lo, grown in organic vineyards in the Penedes region. The grapes were hand gathered at optimum ripeness and the juice was kept in contact with the grape skins to tempt more flavours out.

Onna is wonderfully flavourful with tropical fruit. Enjoyable on its own outside with the sun shining and quite comfortable with light salads and delicate fish dishes.

Domaine de Castelnau (Languedoc, France) *Organic

This is summer in a glass! A dry rose made from Cinsault and Syrah grape varieties. Well-crafted, showing racy and ripe red fruits which make it perfect for drinking on its own or with light BBQ dishes. Fresh and deliciously fruity! Pink rules!

(Almansa, Spain)

*Organic + *Vegetarian + *Vegan

Vines can last for many years and old vines are known for producing smaller and quite concentrated grapes. These old Garnacha vines from the southeast corner of Spain give black cherry and black plum flavours along with spice and vanilla from oak ageing. Full bodied. Bodegas Piqueras are quickly gain-ing a reputation for making very good quality wines at an enviable price. One red wine to try!
