February is upon us and warming, rich wines are still required. We’ve a charming Chenin Blanc, a powerful Portuguese red wine that is simply a stupendous value, a calming Corbieres and a fabulous Franciacorta sparkling rose. Our WSET Level 1 and 2 Award in Wines qualifications have sold out with a month to go so we’ve added new dates (see below)!
This red wine is a blend of native Castelao grapes and Aragonez (otherwise known as Tempranillo) grapes from the Setubal Peninsula, produced by Adega Camolas. It is rich and warming with ripe blackberry and red fruits such as strawberries and raspberries along with soft, ripe tannins and balancing acidity. Overall, it makes for a powerful and flavourful wine with quite a bit of intensity. An incre-dible value wine that punches well above its weight!

A wonderful blend of Carignan, Grenache and Mourvedre grape varieties, “…this red is very much a wine of its place. You can smell those dry herbs immediately and that ripeness of fruit like blackberries and blueberries ready to burst, which you get in a hot climate. Not an oaky wine, this is about purity and the quality of the blend speak volumes.”
A delicately coloured ‘onion skin’ sparkling rose. Made from Pinot Nero (or Pinot Noir) and by the traditional method (the same way Champagne is made). It’s dry and reveals hints of red berries, fresh currants and toast, with more sweet berries and savoury flavours on the palate. Somewhat of a secret, if you haven’t tried it, now may be the time!
Chenin Blanc is arguably one of the most versatile of grape varieties. We can see it as a dry, still white wine, a medium dry wine, a dessert wine and a sparkling wine. It can be unoaked or oaked and some examples can age quite gracefully for a very long time. It is capable of producing some of the finest white wines in the world and yet it generally doesn’t have the recognition that some other white grape varieties have (no names mentioned).
This dry, organic Chenin Blanc has strikingly lively aromas and flavours of fresh pineapple, peach, pear and apple. Its bold mouth-watering acidity makes it so refreshing and keeps you coming back for more.
